Work in Progress
How does one understand the notion of change? Is it linear, regressing/progressing towards infinity? Or is it cyclical – you keep arriving from your start, but what differs is the agency of your being. Can we then say that the manifestation of change in the city Gurgaon will be/is different from its manifestation in the idea Gurgaon? In the exploration of Gurgaon as a notion, an idea, can we see change in a relativistic framework – a chaotic assimilation of simultaneous moments that are created and annihilated together? I see Gurgaon not as a place or an object, but as an organism that is trying to reconcile its plurality in a larger unity that comes with its own pros and cons. The grammar of my photographs is woven around this relativistic, cyclical understanding of change, which can be seen both as a form of evolution and devolution. In the making of my photographs, I have employed the usage of Instagram, the global phenomenon that has changed our world view about photographs and their dissemination in the public domain. These photographs have been made using my phone and have been edited on the same to keep the element of spontaneity and intimacy alive and active. This intimacy which is raw and almost wild in nature is what forms the core of my photo essay. This raw emotion oscillates between comfort and discomfort, faith and insecurities, making my intervention as study of the prevalent human condition.
